84 Years Strong: Celebrating the Heart and Soul of Trinity College Nabbingo

A Special Message on Our Founders’ Day

There’s something truly special about February 5th for every girl who has ever walked through the gates of Trinity College Nabbingo. It’s the day we pause, remember, and celebrate where it all began 84 years ago, when a simple act of faith changed the course of girls’ education in Uganda forever.

Picture here

Picture this: February 5th, 1942. Bishop Edward Michaud driving a group of determined sisters along the dusty roads to Nabbingo. They carried with them a dream that seemed almost audacious at the time to create a place where young Catholic girls could receive an education that would shape not just their minds, but their character, faith, and futures.

That dream became Trinity College Nabbingo. Our TRICONA.

More Than Just a School

If you ask any TRICONA alumna what the school means to her, you’ll rarely hear about just the academics (though yes, we’re proud of our excellence!). You’ll hear stories about the friendships that became sisterhoods, the teachers who became mentors, the chapel services that brought peace during exam stress, and those moments of personal discovery that changed everything.

That’s because our founders the White Fathers understood something profound: educating a girl isn’t just about filling her head with knowledge. It’s about helping her discover who she is, what she’s capable of, and the unique purpose God has for her life.

For 84 years, that’s exactly what we’ve been doing.

The TRICONA Spirit Lives On

Every year when Founders’ Day rolls around, we gather for our Thanksgiving Mass at Rubaga Cathedral, and there’s always this incredible moment when you look around and just take it all in, current students sitting right next to alumnae from decades ago, teachers who’ve poured their hearts into this place, and families who’ve been sending their daughters here for generations.

This year, since students are coming back on February 10th, we’ll have our mass on Thursday, February 12th, so everyone has time to settle in before we celebrate together. It’s in these moments that you really feel the weight of 84 years of history, and honestly, it’s pretty overwhelming in the best way. We pray together because we actually believe in it, not just because it’s what we’ve always done. We think about how far we’ve come, we imagine where our girls will end up, and we remember all the people who built this school one step at a time, with prayer and dedication and so much love

Every Girl Matters

Here’s what makes TRICONA truly special: we’ve never forgotten why we exist. From that very first day in 1942 until now, everything we do comes back to one core belief every girl child deserves a chance to shine.

The White Fathers saw potential where others saw limitations. They saw leaders where society saw merely girls. They saw the future of Uganda in the education of young women when that wasn’t yet a popular idea.

And you know what? They were absolutely right.

Look at our alumnae today doctors, lawyers, teachers, entrepreneurs, mothers, community leaders. Women who are making a difference in every corner of this country and beyond. That’s the legacy of those brave missionaries who believed in us before we even existed.

What Founders’ Day Really Means

Yes, we celebrate our history on February 5th. But we’re also celebrating you every student who’s ever struggled through a difficult subject and emerged stronger, every young woman who found her voice within these walls, every graduate who carries the TRICONA values into the world.

We’re celebrating the teachers who stay late to help a struggling student, the administrators who work tirelessly behind the scenes, the support staff who keep our school running, and the parents who trust us with their daughters.

We’re celebrating 84 years of early morning mass, of science experiments, of netball matches, of choir practice, of late-night study sessions before exams, of laughter in the dormitories, and of tears that turned into triumphs.

Our Promise Moving Forward

As we mark this 84th Founders’ Day, we make a promise to Bishop Michaud, to the White Fathers, to the pioneer sisters, and to every person who has been part of the TRICONA story: we will keep the flame burning.

We will continue to be a home where young women feel safe to dream big, fail occasionally, learn constantly, and grow into the remarkable people God created them to be. We will hold fast to our Catholic values while preparing our students for a rapidly changing world. We will never lose sight of what matters most the girl child sitting in our classrooms today, full of potential and promise.

Thank You

To our founders thank you for seeing what was possible when others couldn’t.

To every teacher and staff member, past and present thank you for pouring your hearts into this mission.

To our alumnae thank you for making us proud and for proving that our founders’ vision was worth every sacrifice.

To our current students thank you for keeping the TRICONA spirit alive and for being the reason we do what we do.

And to our families and community thank you for believing in us and trusting us with what matters most to you.

Happy 84th Founders’ Day, TRICONA family!

Here’s to the journey we’ve travelled and the road that still lies ahead. Here’s to every girl who has been transformed within these walls. Here’s to faith, excellence, and the beautiful legacy we share.

May we honor our past by building an even brighter future—one girl, one dream, one success story at a time.
