Memorandum on the patriotism course conducted for S1 and S5 from August 14 – 21, 2024

We are pleased to report on the successful completion of the Patriotism Course held for Senior One and Senior Five students from August 14 to August 21, 2024. The initiative, organized by the National Patriotism Secretariat, aimed to instill core values of patriotism in our students.

On August 14, we welcomed a distinguished training team led by Course Coordinator Mr. Okike Michael, Principal Officer of Higher Institutions of Learning. He was joined by Chief Instructor Lt. Allan Yesero Kunya and other instructors, including Afande Kaganga Kato Elizabeth, Afande Aziza Nalumansi, Afande Namwanje Zakia and Afande Ssekamatte Ben. The course commenced with an engaging introduction by Mr. Okike who emphasized essential values such as discipline, love, perseverance and endurance. The students were also able to enjoy the film “27 Guns” which complemented the day’s lessons.

The following day, August 15, began with morning drills led by our dedicated instructors, a routine that would continue throughout the course. Mr. Ssenkungu David facilitated a session on self-engineering, discussing influences on our attitudes, beliefs, values and perceptions, including education, religion, social media and the environment. Additionally, the College Mother Mrs. Lwanga Immaculate Nassozi, addressed the students on the importance of patriotism. The Assistant Resident District Commissioner of Wakiso District, Haji Amir Kiggundu inspired students to love their country and engage actively in patriotic activities. The day concluded with an inspiring movie about Winnie Mandela, highlighting her strength and resilience.

On August 16, Madame Irene Ssemuko, the Regional Patriotism Coordinator and a seasoned English teacher, provided insights into sexual reproductive health, emphasizing the importance of self-control and striving for academic excellence. In the afternoon, students participated in the parade and watched documentaries featuring Fidel Castro and the Namugongo Cadres

The course continued on August 17 with Lt. Allan Yesero leading a discussion about the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) including its history and ranks. Mr. Nathan Gesa Ssalongo, Principal Assistant Secretary of the National Patriotism Corps, followed with a motivating presentation on career guidance, encouraging students to remain resilient and seek continual learning opportunities. Afande Nyagoma Maria, Officer in Charge of Nabbingo Police Station, introduced principles of community policing, emphasizing problem-solving, engagement and cultural appreciation.

On August 19, a candid discussion with instructors allowed them to inspire the participants to value themselves and their potential. We were honored to host Madam Gold Ikyiriza, Vice President of the Uganda National Students Association, who urged students to embrace leadership roles to unlock opportunities that foster personal growth and problem-solving skills. She also stressed the importance of mentorship throughout one’s leadership journey.

On August 20, we had the privilege of engaging with Dr. Tibamwenda Nalongo, Assistant Commissioner at the National Patriotism Secretariat. She presented on patriotism and national development, underscoring the significance of personal branding in building the nation. She shared invaluable qualities of a good leader and encouraged our students to envision the type of women they aspire to be.

In conclusion, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for championing this initiative within schools, advancing the mission of the National Patriotism Secretariat. We are especially thankful to Commissioner Madam Hellen Seku for allowing our participation in this transformative course, helping to mold dedicated patriots committed to Uganda’s progress. A special thanks goes to our instructors for their dedication and guidance, as well as to the College Mother, Mrs. Lwanga Immaculate Nassozi, the school administration, and Mr. Kayanja Patrick and Madam Joy Mutebile, the patron of the Patriotism Club. We pledge to actively apply the lessons learned throughout this impactful course.

On 22/08/2024 Col. Natukunda Lydia on behalf of the Commissioner Patriotism Hellen Seku officiated over the pass-out of 704 students of S1 & S5 at TRICONA who graduated in military drills & citizenships after 10 days of Patriotism training.
